There seems to be a slight confusion of terms in this debate between the
terms "ideology" and "theology".
>From the American Heritage Dictionary:
Ideology: The body of ideas reflecting the social needs and aspirations of
an individual, group, class, or culture.
Theology: 1. The study of the nature of God and religious truth: rational
inquiry into religious questions, especially those posed by Christianity.
2. An organized, often formalized body of opinions concerning God and man's
relationship to God.
Or, as Martin Amis put it:
"...an ideology is a belief system with an inadequate basis in reality; a
religion is a belief system with no basis in reality whatever."
