phone rates within Idaho

I've received a number of calls from constituents who elected to
participate in the AT & T
7 cents a minutes plan for long distance calls. Unfortunately, they found
out that they are paying
up to 14 cents/min. for calls made within Idaho. The AT & T
representatives are telling
us that the Legislature sets those instate rates. That is absolutely wrong.

AT & T sets the rates and then advises the PUC with ten days notification.
The Idaho PUC
is powerless to do anything about the rates in terms of modification, etc.
AT & T calls all the
shots on the establishments of the instate rates.

Everyone should also carefully examine their phone bills. Several callers
found out they have
been paying for services they are not receiving. If you run across such
charges call up the
phone company representatives and ask to be compenstated for them. It is
a buyer beware
in dealing with the phone companies in terms of rates of charges that are
on your billing and
not delivered. The consumer is responsible for checking everything out.
