On Friday night, I took my bike out on the Chipman Trail . About two miles
from Moscow, I saw a coyote silhouetted up on a hillside howling with the
half moon rising above him. I stopped my bike and took a few moments to
take in this wonderful scene. We've all had magical experiences like
that...its one of the reasons we all want to live here....truly a quality
of life experiences that we all value and want to maintain.
Last night, my ride up the corridor was very different. There was bumper to
bumper traffic jammed up five miles from Moscow! The Vandal-WSU game had
ended in Pullman and the corridor looked like rush hour in any major urban
area as Moscow residents were making their way home. No coyotes but lots of
happy Vandal fans. Kudos to the team on their big win by the way!!
I realize this amount of traffic is unusual but who can say what it will
look like years after development of motor businesses and the
highway itself. The contrast between Friday and Saturdays experience was
pretty stark. It made me think how very important it is that we include an
awareness of what quality of live indicators we will be giving away as we
attempt to meet a diverse set of community needs in the corridor.
