RE: no personal checks, please

It should not be assumed, merely because a merchant loses a few percent on
a credit or debit card transaction, that these transactions are more
costly. Overhead and risks do exist when taking cash and checks. Cash
must be counted, bundled, and deposited in the bank. Checks bounce.
Credit deposits happen automatically, and the merchant doesn't have to
worry about losing this money at gunpoint or due to a dishonest employee.

There was an article on this in the August Food Co-op newsletter. The
Co-op has sales exceeding $1 million/year, and now does some 30% of its
transactions with credit cards. Manager Kenna Eaton says "we cannot
imagine a time when [credit cards] weren't a part of our business." Her
advice on paying at the Co-op? "Just do what feels right to you."

Smart merchants make it easy for their customers to shop and pay, and that
includes giving them all of the popular payment options!
