Historic Preservation Commission

Visionaries interested in preserving the best of Moscow's landmarks,
buildings, and neighborhoods are invited to apply for appointment to the
Moscow Historic Preservation Commission. We currently have several vacancies.

Members are appointed by the Mayor to three-year terms, but it's not a
three-year commitment. You can resign at any time for any reason.

The commission meets monthly, usually from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on the first
Tuesday of the month in the conference room adjacent to the Council Chambers
at City Hall.

Current and recent projects include the following: (1) selection and
presentation of "Orchid Awards" to recognize outstanding examples of
preservation in the community; (2) publication of the "Cornerstone"
preservation newsletter; (3) locating photos of Moscow's 46 mayors
(1887-2001) to display at City Hall; (4) developing displays of historic
ledger books, photos, and other artifacts from the city vault; (5)
compilation of resource materials for homeowners; and (6) advising the Mayor
and City Council on matters affecting preservation of Moscow's historic
character and amenities.

In the future the Commission may be involved in formation of a downtown
historic district and the nomination of particular buildings for listing on
the National Register of Historic Places.
