Community Foundation Seeks
Applications for Fall Grants
MOSCOW - The Latah County Community Foundation invites proposals from area
non-profit groups looking for support for community projects and programs.
The Foundation has set an Oct. 15 deadline for applications for its next
round of grants, said Elaine Broyles of Moscow, president of the Foundation.
Grant application guidelines are available from the Foundation's website,
www.latahfoundation.org or by calling 892-9209.
Since its inception in June of 2000, the Foundation has awarded more than
$80,000 in grants to assist Latah County groups working in one or more of
seven target areas: education, social services, environment, health, youth,
civic improvement and the arts. The Foundation's board will announce the
next round of grants in December.
The Foundation will consider applications of up to $5,000, Broyles said,
although smaller grants have a greater chance of being funded. The
foundation provides three main types of funding:
· Project or program support for new or existing programs.
· Capacity building support to improve an organization's ability to serve
its constituents.
· Operating support for start-up or existing organizations, when the
Foundation is convinced that such funding for a limited period of time can
make a difference.
Community foundations serve donors who wish to establish endowments without
incurring the legal and administrative costs of starting private
foundations. More than 500 community foundations exist in the United
States.
The Foundation also invites bequests and gifts to increase the size of its
principal. For more information about making a contribution, please contact
any board member.
In addition to Broyles, directors are: Beverly Boyd of Genesee, Carol
Haddock of Potlatch, and Kenton Bird, Joanne Carr, Judy Marineau, Glenn Owen
Jr., Jay Pengilly and Jim Pilcher, all of Moscow.
