That's a curious thing to say, surely? How in the world would anyone know
that a rumor is mostly spread by gay people? (And how long could it continue
to spread in what is, after all, a rather limited pool of gay people? Two
days would about do it for us.)

So are many gay people in Moscow.
Rumors don't need much fact--just a shred of plausibility. No
anti-Christian gay conspiracy is needed; just one ill-informed and
persuasive communicator.
The GLBA Program at WSU (my day job) provides Safe Zone cards for offices
and departments which read "We are Allies. People of all sexual
orientations are welcome here. We do not permit homophobic language or
behavior." Perhaps some variation of this would be useful to post or
display in Bucer's? I'd be happy to share a copy.
