Finally, someone else mentioned those lights at the 1912 center. I
too have seen them aglow during the night, while we were currently in our
"electricity shortage". But those few thousand watts pale in comparison to
the stadium look of W. Pullman Hwy. at 4:00 A.M. Anyone else out there
offended at the extreme glare, while you are the only commuter on the
road? I feel a sense of bliss as I cross the state line and regain sight
of the moon and a few stars. Is this a certain spec we must meet as a
state highway? What's the power bill for this? How many salmon lose their
lives each night so a few people can drive around without headlights? I've
read that a typical football game costs either $90 per hour or per game to light
(pre Enron). One third the lighting would suffice after midnight.
Peg, I know you're out there, what do you think about this? Any activists
need a cause? There is a movement called "The Dark Skies Initiative" that
really makes a lot of sense (once you get over the newness of it). I don't
know their URL but it should be easy to figure
out.
