Free Public Lecture: “The Four
Pillars of Modernity” by Doug Jones

Visionaries,
For anyone who might be the least bit
interested in hearing more about a topic that has shown up on the Vision 2020
discussion, I’ll be giving a
brief, introductory talk on Modernity as a worldview this Friday, and anyone is
welcome to come, question, and object. It’s titled “The Four
Pillars of Modernity” and will survey various secular approaches to
Modernity and aim to explain the four core values that drive that vision, all
from a Christian angle. Its multimedia aspect will include an analysis of
Modernity as regularly expressed in popular television commercials.
This talk is what is scheduled for this
week’s New St. Andrews College “disputatio” meeting (held
every Friday) where we’ve invited various folks of different persuasions
to address us. You’re welcome to join the students and other regular
visitors and participate in the subsequent discussion or not. If you
don’t know where the Nuart is, just follow the students wearing the Harry
Potter robes. No one will tax you, force you to laugh, or make you drink fine
wine.
