Car Wash

I certainly appreciate the self-reliance of the young ladies who are
washing cars topless in Moscow today. According to the Lewiston Tribune,
they are trying to raise money for their rent. after a run of bad luck.
This topless car wash is three blocks from my home and is adjacent to a
neighborhood where young children and families live. As one might guess,
the traffic in the neighborhood has picked up considerably. Are jobs really
that difficult to find in Moscow? If they asked, wouldn't a local landlord
give them time to get back on their feet and find a job?

As I drove home from work, I noticed four young neighborhood boys on their
bicycles hanging out watching this scene. No surprise there but it did make
me uncomfortable. I wish these young ladies quick success in their
enterprise, to earn their rent money and then to quickly shut this
operation down. One of the critical elements that is missing here is a
shared responsibility to maintain a healthy and safe environment for
families in our community.

I hope the owner of this commercial property where the car wash is
occurring will demonstrate responsibility and show some respect
for his neighbors.
