Hi. My name is Keith Dimeler and I have been following the discussion on
vision2020 for about 8 months now. I am glad for the forum.
It struck me odd the statement made by Debi Robinson-Smith.
"The premise of the Constitution of the USA is that individual rights
prevail----freedom of
>religion, freedom of dissent, freedom of CHOICE----too bad for all
>those who wish to impose their religious righteousness on the rest
>of us. Get patriotic, for Diety's sake, and worship your way while I
>worship mine. If you want your children mind controlled by your
>religion, go for it. I just take exception when you want my children
>to follow your rigid, righteous, dogmatic and judgemental view
>points...."
It seems that in this debate and in our country, many promote the concept of
individual rights. This is a good thing, if placed within its proper
context. However, what most people fail to recognize is that their children
also understand what the rhetoric of individual rights means.....and they
apply it well. The disobey their parents, they get upset when they are not
permitted to do everything they want, and they promote their own individual
rights over those in real authority over them. I don't say this is true for
everyone, but it is true generally. Parents are always wondering when the
rebellious stage will end, attributing the rebellion to a normal period in a
young person's life. This is not true. The rebellion is taught.
Individual rights is our life, is our history, and is our king. The
children begin to understand and apply this concept. The fruit is what we
see day in and day out.
The freedoms we have in the U.S. are great and I am glad to be living in
this country. But we have to start to see the need for true and honorable
hierarchy. A child should strive to obey his parents, not seek all the ways
around his parent's wishes. If we continue to preach the mantra of
individual rights, then we will continue to see the dismantling of families,
and in the end, we will have no cohesiveness at all.
