Re: ADA Parking Problem
Maintenance of the downtown street parking was a problem. Snow and ice
build-up around the curbs, gutters and sidewalks at times made it dangerous
for him to even get out of the car.
Some walks from handicapped accessible spots are quite a distance from some
of the basic service businesses. Then again, not everyone with a mobility
disability uses a wheelchair and some prefer at times to save those spaces
for those who use wheelchairs, instead choosing to "mainstream" themselves
as much as possible.
I bring the issue up because although those of us who might be able to walk
the two blocks sometimes express a disdain for those not willing to do so,
forgetting that some are unable to do so or experience debilitating pain to
do so.
I know that our community can be more proactive, creative and sensitive
while improving downtown access for all.
