Wanna join the community advisory board?

The Moscow-Pullman Daily News is forming a community advisory board. This
board is your chance to speak directly to the editors of the newspaper with
your suggestions and complaints and critiques.
In the posting below, managing editor Steve McClure explains a little more
about the board and its function--as well as explains how to apply.
Moscow Vision 2020 will be sponsoring an informal public meeting with Steve in
the next few weeks. At that meeting, you will be able to ask any questions
about the board or provide other comments about the newspaper. Details about
that meeting will be announced soon.

from Steve McClure to Moscow Vision 2020:

>
> I would like to announce the recreation of the Daily News Community Board
> of Advisors.
> It's not always the easiest board to serve on and we haven't done a stellar
> job of keeping it going the last few years, but it is exceptionally
> valuable to a community newspaper.
> We're looking for 12-15 Daily News subscribers who can provide constructive
> feedback on the paper. We're also looking for a good geographic
> representation that reflects our circulation area.
> We don't want to load the board with boosters of the paper but we don't
> want to fill it with people who have an ax to grind.
> The board cannot hire or fire anyone and its members do not review
> editorials or news stories before the paper comes out. Board members do
> tell us what they think of the stories and editorials we've run, and what
> they think of the direction the paper is heading. In that sense, the board
> does help influence our thinking and long-range decision making.
> Since we plan to publish the names of the people appointed to our community
> board of advisors, I expect board members will bring their thoughts to the
> table, as well as the thoughts and ideas of friends and neighbors.
> The board will meet quarterly with myself and Butch Alford, the publisher.
> Each meeting will have something of an agenda but also will include a good
> portion of time devoted to board members' thoughts on the paper.
> In the past, we've run summaries of board members' comments after each
> meeting. I plan to continue that tradition.
> If you are interested in serving, send me a short note explaining why you
> want to be on the board and what you think you can offer to the group.
> The notes can me mailed to P.O. Box 8187, Moscow, ID 83843; or e-mailed to
> <smcclure@dnews.com>.
> I look forward to hearing from you.
