Re: $5 million windfall

Perhaps after it is decided on how much will be spent/invested/etc., and a
task force or commission has been formed, we could institute a grant
application forum and groups could apply for $ for specific projects to be
funded.

In that forum, smaller-scale projects could be funded as well as the
larger projects and I'm sure there are a lot of creative ideas out there
just waiting for a little chunk of cash. For example, I have been trying
to get some new playground equipment in the Almon-Asbury-Lieuallen Park
near our house (the park is on Residence, off of Cherry) to upgrade it
from it's current status of "Nice, small park with a great view, one swing
and a giant farm tractor tire which is used as an ashtray/garbage can by
the junior high set all nestled on a bed of sand which is also used as an
ashtray by all who visit" (and I am not stereotyping junior high age
people, I watch them every day!)

I'd like to see some of the newer equipment which has been installed over
the past few years at East City and Rotary Park. This park is low on the
city's priority right now and though I understand their reasoning, it
would still be nice to have an alternate source of funds for these kind of
projects. The grants could be full-funding or matching funds similar to
other grant programs.

Tired of picking up those cigarette butts and telling my 2 year old 'No,
icky! Please put that down, not in your mouth, AGHGH'...
