Re: Citizens for Aaron

This information was also contained in a news story by Erin Walter in the
Lewiston Tribune (page 6A) this morning.
In that story, Mayor Comstock replied that he planned to ignore the petition
and appoint someone from a short list he has compiled of his
friends/supporters.
If Comstock is not planning to appoint the obvious choice of the voters, it
leaves me confused.
Let's see....
1. Tony Johnson knows he is moving to his new house this spring, but does
not resign in the fall to allow the voters to pick his replacement.
2. Aaron Ament (based on years of public service and commitment) runs for
council and comes in fourth. had Johnson resigned in the fall, Ament would
have won the seat.
3. Mayor Comstock prefers to select a crony of his rather than someone who
has campaigned and run for the office, and was the next choice of the
voters.
Is there something wrong with this picture?
I hope this petition effort can awaken Mayor Comstock to the desire for open
government by the citizens of Moscow. I hope Mayor Comstock changes his
mind and nominates Aaron Ament. And if Mayor Comstock chooses to pick one
of his cronies, I hope the Council will reject his nominee.
