Keith: Are we stuck in good part because US agriculture insists on
playing "supermarket to the world", whereby some 60 - 80% of our
production (depending on the region) goes to countries 'unable' to feed
themselves and have to use their foreign currencies to buy European and
American foods? They sell us raw materials and services, we send
processed goods, technology and food; but increasingly, we are
subsidizing their industrialization (our huge trade imbalancess) and
moving jobs off shore. Is that the system? John McCain is telling us that
some of the distortions are due to bad lobbying and selfish interests
controlling public policy. Maybe this Vietnam vet is right. Who is
right, anyway? Ken M.
