Re: 1912 MHS

ok... i am going to get onto my soapbox again!

i keep on hearing some people talk about the expense of this project without
regard for the community enhancements it creates. let me try to put the
facts in order if i may:

1. the 1912 building will be partly used for city offices, parks & rec.
and Arts, which eliminates one of the needs at the city for more office
space.

2. the building will be host to a wonderful science center. i am planning
to donate considerable materials and time to this project due to its impact
on our children and students as well as those of the surrounding
communities. i see school outings to the science center during the day which
will improve science education at our schools. i see a place to go on the
weekends!

3. there will be an art gallery and art project rooms housed in the
building. again i see the schools being involved here; i see pottery,
painting, and other art classes for our community.

4. historic classroom - this room will look exactly like a classroom of
old days. we will be able to host meetings and special classes at the room.

5. public computer and lounge - the lounge will be an informal rest area
with several computer terminals for the public use.

6. large meeting room - this will replace the hall at the city hall
building; it is larger and will be better equipped.

7. senior center - for special events for our senior citizens.

i agree that there is a large cost for redoing the building and even
maintaining it... but how much do you think it costs to maintain the current
city hall building? the question should not be whether there are costs
involved but whether the expense is justified and the enhancements to our
community valid and needed.

on this question i would assert that the new services and opportunities
provided by the 1912 building are well worth the small cost. to all of us
the maintenance costs are high but once we get together and support the
project the costs to each one of us will be so small and inconsequential.

as a property owner, taxpayer, businessman, citizen, and community activist
i would gladly pay to have this project reach fruition. this is not too
different from the library and dear friends of mine who support it. it is
another project to enhance the quality of life and quality of mind in our
community.

your brother in arms,

shahab...
