This thread has taken a very surreal turn.  So it only seems appropriate
to add a different perspective:

I think that there should be a year-round open season on free-roaming
cats.  They are an environmental disaster.  In the United States alone
they are estimated to kill several million birds each year. 

It is, however, in very poor taste to clean them in public.  Poor taste
should not be a felony -- or all of the people with garden statuary would
be put away.
