Here is an email I received last week concerning the Science Center.

NEW REGIONAL SCIENCE CENTER ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

An organizational meeting for the new regional science center will be held
Monday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the Moscow Junior High School multi-purpose
room. Supporters for the science center are asking those interested to
attend and offer input on topics ranging from drafting a mission statement
and structuring the governing board of directors to proposed programming.

The idea for a science center came from a use committee established by the
Moscow City Council. The committee was charged with determining the most
appropriate uses for the historic 1912 Moscow High School Building.
Following a series of public meetings, the use committee proposed to the
City Council that a portion of the building be used for a science
education center and hands-on discovery center. "Science centers and
similar discovery education centers have played an important part in
creating interest in the sciences" claims Lisa Garrett, who worked as an
educator at a science center in North Carolina. Garrett stated that "the
educational opportunities are almost unlimited, especially given the
resources of the two local universities, and the outreach programs could
impact students not only here on the Palouse but throughout all of eastern
Washington and northern Idaho."

Supporters are now seeking input regarding the initial organization and
are actively looking for people interested in volunteering their time and
talents to seeing this project through initial development. The meeting
next Monday is open to everyone and supporters are asking anyone
interested to attend. Questions concerning the meeting or its purpose
should be directed to Lisa Garrett at 883-4746.
