Re: Exiting Standards Commission Meetings



I attended the first Open House in Twin Falls at which the draft Exiting
Standards document from the Idaho Board of Education's Exiting Standards
Commission was presented.  The meeting was very poorly attended, perhaps
fifteen people total of whom maybe five to seven appeared to be "public."
Only three people provided public comment.  The comments were generally
favorable toward the effort expended by the commission.  However, the State
Board was criticized for not better informing the public about the open
house meetings and for not providing the draft document prior to the
meeting.  Other concerns voiced regarding the document included the lack of
specificity of the standards, (how will the standard be assessed?) and the
lack of a more comprehensive plan for dealing with the students who don't
meet the standards.  The draft document is available on the internet at:
