I said "free" services!  That was to signify how we have come to take them
for granted.  Paid for, yes, by students and by taxes, and by a variety of
other people and means.  My point is that this type of a system, or one
based on lead pencils and paper, need constant care and feeding (money, for
example) if they are to continue to operate and grow.  We are, as I was
suggesting, wanting more than we have, or appear to be willing to pay for.
