I did not realize that voicing opinions on how it could be
better is complaining... I thought it was sending out food for
thought to those working on those issues.
A different perspective is or should always be looked for.
Perhaps it is the defensive attitude that sees it as
complaining. I actually only spoke in terms of I call it as I
see it. Yes, there are wonderful programs, but sometimes you
have to see past what you've done and continue on to do more....
And as long as too many are still thinking small town, small
business, etc. The climate will remain the same.
All the programs you speak of are good programs, but none of
them address the problems I spoke of. So if it is complaining
to speak out about the problems you see.....what happens when
you complain in earnest?
I was under the impression that this was a forum where you could
bring up ideas, issues and suggestions to be discussed by others in
the community....was I mistaken?
I also feel that economic development of a community is just as
important to family health and welfare and to our youth's welfare as
a whole as any other part of community services. If I had the time,
believe me I'd be more than happy to be on one of those committees.
As it is I have chosen the Youth Center issue to work on
....and until I see that it has been acted on with the energy I feel
is appropriate I will leave my time available for this. But again, I
do appreciate the invitation.

Joan that's what you need to find out. I challenge you to become a member
of either the Chamber of Commerce or the EDC, and become part of the
solution. I know nothing of your background or how you come to Moscow, but
will assume it's UI related by your address.
I can site numerous examples from both groups and what they are doing but
that would take more space than I really care to write. I will site one
example from each organization from the past year.
EDC: Alturas Tech Park. Keeping high paying, clean jobs at home.
Chamber: Education Committee. School to work, Moscow style. Working with
the School Dist. to help prepare students for the working world. Though the
Teacher-in-the-Workplace, and Teacher-for-a Day programs. As well as hiring
a full-time business education coordinator, to link together businesses and
schools for the benefit of students.
I encourage you to sit down and talk with Rob at the EDC, and with ElDonna
at the Chamber. Find out which committee is focusing on your area of
interest and become involved.
It has been my experience that it order to effect change you have to do more
than just complain. Please take up my challenge and find out what the EDC
and the Chamber are doing for you.
