When I received the information last month about the cable increases, I
talked to Gary Riedner, Moscow City Supervisor. When I walked in his
office and complained about the rates, Gary told me that he had already
sent a letter of inquiry to the cable company, asking about their
justification for the rate increases. A few weeks later I asked Gary what
their reply was, but he had not yet heard back from them. It is now a few
more weeks later....
Not only is there difficulty to find anyone to speak to about this issue,
but I believe there is another real slap in the face. Customers must pay
several dollars more for the limited cable (which for many people in Moscow
basically serves as their "antenna" to receive decent reception), and are
now subjected to two new "shopping" channels. Years ago I remember hearing
some Moscow residents who were trying to lobby for some other kinds of
educational programming on the limited cable. Instead we get shopping
channels.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. I'll be interested to hear
what their response is to Gary Riedner's inquiry.
