A fire on Friday night burned the roof off the Wallen Road home of David
Peckham, Nancy Casey, and their two children Patrick and Elizabeth. No
one was hurt in the fire which began at about 10pm at the old log cabin
at 2335 Wallen Road.
The family had no insurance to cover either the home or the belongings
damaged by smoke and water.
Neighbors and friends have opened an account at First Security Bank for
them. Donations are welcome to the David Peckham-Nancy Casey Benefit
Account.
The family expects to use the donated money to help them rebuild the
structure. A group of friends removed much of the burned roof and
debris at a work-party on Saturday. The family could use further offers of
labor to both clean the site and begin construction.
Their telephone and other utilities have been temporarily cut. They
expect to live in a borrowed trailer at the Wallen Road site during
construction.
Both Peckham and Casey are well-known in the Moscow area. Peckham was
the Transportation Coordinator at the Palouse Clearwater Environmental
Institute and then became a consultant in transportation alternatives.
Casey had been the president of the Moscow Renaissance Fair and is the
author of several nationally-distributed texts on mathematics learning
for children.
