Dear visionaries,
Here is my theory as to why the bond issue failed to receive a 2/3 vote.
I do feel that part of it was the weatheryes, I also think (and know of)
renters that don't vote because they don't really care as they do not pay
property tax. However, I think, after being born and raised here that it
is the same old arguement about change. Life/long timers here do not
easily accept change, especiall;y change that requires money and involves
a huge renovation to something that is perceved as ,"weve done fine all
these years without sidewalks and bikepaths on Mt. View, why do we need
them now?" One more thing that may have affected the vote was a
misunderstanding of exactly how it was going to be paid for. It wasn't
until a asked the question of what would happen if it was a no vote did I
understand that the funds were being mached and that without this bond we
would be footing the entire bill for the renovation of Mt. View.
Anyway these are a few reasons that I think may have affected the vote
and voter turnout.
