I've always liked the idea of a quilt. To copy the carousel example in 
Missoula, how about three evenings a week of sewing a community quilt? 
A member of the Palouse Hills Weavers Guild could show us the basic 
stitch; we could have a preset measurement for squares (bring your own 
material); and participation could be on a drop-in basis. Think of all 
the social and political lines that would be crossed, as well as ages. 
Think of the stories and concerns people could share at these informal 
quilting sessions. This could be a great winter project to shed a little 
light and fellowship during those dark days. When we were finished we 
could have a great celebration, too.
