Dear Visionaries,
A fascists socialist is like a national socialist or Nazi. To me
national socialism is a form of mercantilism. Mercantilism is the
idea that power, plenty, and prosperity are the result of strong
central control for the good of the nation. Elizabethian England was
mercantilist state. Mercantilism assumes that private interests always
works at odds with the public interest. Mercantilism was eclipsed by
laissez-faire capitalism as outlined by Adam Smith. Smith's
contribution was to make the case that private enterprise is often
also in the public interest. I think both the Mercantilist and the
Laissez-faire capitalists are partly right - at different time. My
guess is that John thinks only the Laissez-faire capitalits are
right. And sometimes they are.
