restrictions on burning



The Latah Board of County Commissioners would like to pass on the following
notice of restrictions on burning as published by the Idaho Department of
Lands on August 17,2000:

NOTICE OF RESTRICTIONS

NOW, THEREFORE, under the authority vested in me under Section 38-115, Idaho
Code, and the Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Forest Fire Protedtion, I
hereby direct the following fire prevention measures to apply to all state
and private lands outside of incorporated city limits within the State of
Idaho.

The following acts are prohibited on state, federal and private lands, roads
and trails described herein until further notice:
1.  Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire and/or campfire

2.  Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed
recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter
that is barren or cleared of all flammable material

3.  The discharge of any muzzle-loaded firearm utilizing black powder or a
modern substitute (including "Cold Shot and Pyrodex"), and that may carry
flame beyond the end of the muzzle is prohibited on State and private land
only.  This includes all muzzle-loaded rifles, pistols and cannons.

4.  Operating motorized vehicles off designated roads except for approved
commercial operations.

The following acts are prohibited from 1:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m.

1.  Operating a chainsaw or motorized equipment for any purpose

2.  Blasting, welding or other activities which generate flame or flammable
material.

3.  A patrol is required for one hour following cessation of all work.  The
patrol's responsibility includes checking and reporting fires discovered
adjacent ot and within the work area.

EXEMPTIONS:

a.  Persons with a written permit that specifically authorizes the otherwise
prohibited act

b.  Persons cooking with fire fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels

c.  The discharge of black powder weapons for demonstration purposes at an
organized "rendezvous" reenactment

d.  Loading logs and sawing incidental to loading operations on cleared bare
soil log landings

e.  Persons conducting activities in those designated areas where the
activity is specifically authorized by written posted notice

f.  Any federal, state or local officer or member of an organized rescue or
fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

These restrictions shall be in full force and effect from and after 0001
hours, Saturday, August 19, 2000, until this order is otherwise rescinded.
