Responsible Reporting by Newspapers

Briana's comments regarding newspapers caught my attention because it hit a
nerve. Something happened in this community about four years ago that
bothered me a great deal. There was an incident that involved more than one
teenage boy, all were under 18. When our local paper reported the incident,
several of the boys were identified in the story by their initials, but one
of the boys was referred to by his full name. This upset his family and
they told me they complained to the paper about what they considered to be
irresponsible reporting. It happened not once, but three times according to
the family. I personally read two of the articles, so I know this happened.
To this day the family is still hurt and angry as they have never received
an explanation or apology from our local paper.
