Police Advisory Board

2020 people:

The idea of a citizens' advisory board to the Moscow Police Department
(MPD) has been discussed several times over the past six years.

During those years, there have been a number of changes in the MPD. One of
the first things that happened was the start of the Police Bike Patrol.
The bike patrol has since grown, with four officers now trained for bicycle
duty. As most of you know, getting police officers out of their cars, into
positions that make communication and interrelationships with the public
more accessible, has been a positive improvement for Moscow.

Another change that has happened is the concept of community oriented
policing, which is a different philosophical approach to policing than we
had prior to five years ago. Again, I think this has been a positive
change for the community.

There is not currently a citizen's advisory board, but we can certainly
bring it back for discussion. I am sure that Chief Weaver will have some
comments as well, as soon as he is back from the training session he is
attending. Any of you that have given comments or asked questions of Dan
Weaver know how approachable he is. If you have concerns, I think he is a
good place to start.
