Re; anonymous reports of U of I community involvement

This U of I alum/student/taxpayer thinks all of you faculty that take the
time and effort to contribute ideas and comments (except the ones I don't
agree with..) ought to get a certificate of appreciation and a raise.
One of my (many) criticisms of the local papers was their lack of input
from our two universities. I would have welcomed MORE university comments
on the issues of the carillon, the role of newspapers in our community,
college prep re the high schools, etc.. There are many other
university-related topics I would like to see discussed (time limits on
tests being a prime example), but since it has been made clear this is a
forum for economic development issues only, I guess better education will
have to wait for another time and place.
My one 'gripe' about faculty use of computers was a salt-in-the-wounds
and not-in-my-backyard observation of the irony I saw; everyone connected
with the U that week knew of the computer problems, but no one was saying
a word. But they were saying much about the high school's problems.
And if we students can't get online, I say pull the plug on the
higher-ups- equal lack of opportunity.
So in case you're wondering, Joan, no- it wasn't me. I tend to be
direct.....behind the back is not my style. Jo Williams
