While I can understand and sympathize with those who feel that some topics
have run on far too long, I am concerned with the idea of starting a new
list that would delete commentary. One purpose of having such a discussion
list is to make announcements, and then publicly answer questions and
receive feedback. Unfortunately, we are only human and as such tend to view
the "open mike" style of this list as a soapbox.
If we did start a new list that suppressed commentary, those who simply
wished to announce and did not want to deal with the controversy, would then
use the new list. This is subtle form of censorship.
Simple announcements are best left to church bulletins, etc.
