I agree with Bill London and Ron Force regarding the taking of singles
verbal clashes off list.

Having said that, I find myself in dire need of edification. When I talk to
myself, which I do increasingly often as I get older and the tenor of
discussion on the list continues to deteriorate, I find it more and more
difficult to understand--and communicate that understanding or lack
thereof--how what is being said on list has any real relevence to the
purposes of the list. 

Why do we (the royal "we") have this list? Is there still a need to an
electronic forum to discuss community issues? Have we "developed" to the
point where we need a V2020 moderator? Since when I ask myself those
questions I am usually met with deafening silence, I throw them out for
more enlightened response.
