Good point, Bob.  I'm reminded of the great Tom Lehrer song, "Smut":
 
"When correctly viewed,
Everything is lewd.
I can tell you things about Peter Pan
And the Wizard of Oz . . . there's a dirty old man!"
 
One man's "slut" might be this woman's political activist.  As I recall, the clergy of her day bestowed some choice epithets on Mrs. Pankhurst.  No matter; she won in the end. 
 
"As the judge remarked the day that they acquitted my aunt Hortense,
To be smut it must be utterly without redeeming social importance."

Is it their action that makes them sluts, or the way in which you and your
brethren respond to them, the intended view your own eyes greedily drink
in, that makes them deserving of this pejorative?
