RE: 9/11

Here's the details:

UI TO COMMEMORATE SEPT. 11 TRAGEDY WITH FLAG-RAISING AND OTHER EVENTS
September 6, 2002

MOSCOW – University of Idaho faculty, staff and students will join the
Moscow Fire Department and other community members in a flag-raising
ceremony the morning of Sept. 11 to commemorate the lives lost in the events
of that day a year ago.

At 8:42 a.m. (PDT), the university’s carillon bells will ring 3 times, then
4 times, then 3 times in memory of the 343 firefighters who were killed in
the attacks in New York City. The entire campus community in Moscow, as well
as UI locations throughout the state, will observe a moment of silence.

The flag-raising ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, in
the Idaho Commons Food Court; UI Provost Brian Pitcher and an ASUI
representative will make brief remarks.

Flags on the Moscow campus and throughout Idaho will be flown at half-staff.

A variety of other activities are scheduled.

Throughout the day nationally televised commemorative programming will play
on the big-screen television in the Commons Food Court. The International
Affairs Club also will be running a videotape that reads the names of all
those who lost their lives in the 9-11 attacks in the Idaho Commons.

An acoustic concert will be held outside the Idaho Commons over the lunch
hour.

>From 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. that day, the College of Law will conduct a
faculty panel discussion in the courtroom entitled "September 11 Remembered:
Security, Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law.”

The UI Residence Hall Association is sponsoring a candlelight remembrance
beginning at 8 p.m., Wednesday, in the plaza outside the UI Library. A
commemorative candlelight service will begin at 7:30 p.m. at St. Augustine
Catholic Church, progress to the LDS Institute and then to the Campus
Christian Center.

A complete listing of 9-11 activities at UI is available at
