First, I agree with what Doug Jones said. A religious argument has been
made, albeit not (until recently) an expressly biblical one. Although, I
would like to know where other than the Bible Garrett thinks I got
everything I have said so far.

Second, there is not a religious argument merely "regarding" the issue. The
issue is essentially religious. Like I said before, it always comes down to
who or what you worship.

Third, to be fair to those reading this and to avoid misunderstanding about
where I am coming from, I do not assume that the biblical argument is simply
one more voice at the table. It is not a matter of hearing what God has to
say, what Smith has to say and what Jones has to say, and then counting
noses to see who is right.

And, finally, this is not one of those questions like, "what is the biblical
prohibition against theft." This is a cultural issue, and culture is more
than pointing to proof texts.

Given that, in answer to Garrett's question:

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them." (Genesis 1:27). "Thy breasts are like two
young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies." (Song of Solomon
4:5). "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and
gave himself for it...." (Ephesians 5:25).

I don't know how I can put it more plainly than that.

Cheers,
