RE: ain't gonna pay for war no more
In all of this debate about the quality of public schools vs. private vs.
whatever, it aggravates me that everything is placed on the public schools
in relation to the success or failure of students. What about the parents?
No school should be entirely responsible for success/failure. School,
teachers and extracurricular activities are all just a part of the
education process. Parents need to reinforce and supplement these things
at home, all through a child's life. I think the framework we have now is
sufficient, but there are obvious problems which can be addressed and
hopefully changed. However, without parental involvement it won't matter
how 'good' the schools, teachers, books, etc. are. Likewise, without
parental involvement none of the problems can be realistically addressed.
I think that is part of the reason why homeschooling can be so successful,
there is constant reinforcement of the learning process, it's not just an
8:30-3:00 M-F process.
