MER meeting wed 8/28 7pm Mikey's Gyros and notes

MER will be having its weekly meeting at Mikey's Gyro's, downtown Moscow,
Wednesday night (8/28) at 7pm.
Please bring your petitions with signatures so we can get a headcount.
Tim Lohrman has asked if a representative of MER would like to speak on his
talk show, Moscow Morning Views, which airs sunday mornings at 9am to 11.
Are you interested in speaking on the air?
We need more people to collect signatures. An hour or two of your time.
It's easy, educational and a great way to meet people. You can team up with
someone who's collected before.
We need people to get their friends to sign a petition. Pass it around your
next potluck, party or meeting you attend. Everyone could collect 20
signatures from your acquanteces.

MER is organizing a Civil Rights Celebration to be held in East City Park in
Moscow on Saturday 9/7 from 11 to 7pm. (This is not to be confused with the
Harvest of Harmony Celebration held 2 weeks afterwards in the park.)
The intent of the Celebration is to recognize our freedoms as Americans and
promote the expansion of freedoms to those repressed. Equal rights to all
will be a theme, highlighted by the campaign to rescind Moscow's sexist and
unconstitutional nudity ordinance.
Music, speakers, games (like the ever-popular "bean bag toss"), skits, a
fashion show featuring newly "illegal" attire, petitions to put the
ordinance to a public vote, and even more music will tie the Celebration
together.
Those interested in helping organize or be part of the Celebration should
respond or come to the meeting.
Call 883-7965 for more information.

If you know others who wish to be a part of this list, let us know.
If you no longer wish to receive our emails, respond with "remove" in
subject line.

On July 15th, Moscow’s City Council approved Ordinance 2002-13, the nudity
ordinance. The ordinance, as written, makes it illegal for a woman to bare
her breasts in public view. This means her private property, including her
home, if it is open to public view. It also makes it illegal for women to
wear certain bikinis and attire in public.
The fine is up to $500 or 6 months in jail.
MER believes the ordinance is sexist and unconstitutional and suppresses the
rights of women in order to prevent another person from feeling a certain
way.
MER is committed to upholding the 14th amendment's guarantee of equal
protection under the law for all citizens.
MER has started a petition drive to put the ordinance to a public vote.
2300 signatures of registered voters in the city of Moscow must be collected
by September 24.
