RE: misquotes and misinterpretations

Title: Message
Dan,

(Hope you don't mind the familiarity . . . if you do, just let me know!)

I'm one of those women who chooses not to bare my breasts, so you can be assured that I'll not get down on others who make that same choice (with 'choice' being an important distinction)  :-)  I think my breasts are a pair that are definitely better left to the imagination, although I think my loyal hubby would likely disagree with my assessment  ;-), and I didn't choose to take my shirt off in public even when I had the legal option of doing so.

Perhaps my response is more emotional than yours, but I'm not sure that's such a bad thing.  After all, it's women who are being potentially criminalized with this ordinance and I'm a woman.  And, it's traditionally women in this country who've not had the benefit of equal protection, representation, and opportunity.  Since I am a woman, I can see how my response, as one of those targeted, might be more emotional than the reactions of one who remains in a protected class.

However, I hope you understand that while I may have a more emotional response than you on the subject, that doesn't negate the concerns I have regarding selective enforcement, constitutionality, and the financial costs of the inevitable court challenges to mention just a few, not to mention that Moscow, Idaho is getting national coverage on such a titillating issue as this rather than on much of the good this community accomplishes.

I guess there's a silver lining to every cloud:  this issue got me to find this forum, and I'm hearing from old friends all around the country wondering what the heck we're doing here wasting so much time on such a trivial issue.  I don't mean to trivialize the issue myself, but I thought there was a lot of wisdom in the idea that we simply ignore the topless carwash because the weather would be changing soon enough.

Believe me, Ms. Lund, I'm against the ordinance just as much as you, but probably for a less emotional reason.  I figure it's all a waste of our time, a kneejerk reaction to a bunch of young ladies that were only looking for attention.

I have nothing against equal rights for women, but don't get down on the women that choose not to bare their breasts.  I also have nothing against topless women, but sometimes things are best left to the imagination.

Where have you been?  Have you not been reading the messages in this forum?  My understanding is that there are many women, including myself, just as outraged at Ordinance No 2002-13 as Mr. Clevenger is, and we are involved in trying to get it repealed.

You don't have to be a woman to see how divisive this ordinance is, or to be outraged at the implications and what it's doing to our community, nor to be involved.

This is a truly Equal Opportunity cause  :-)

I just wonder why you, a man, are fighting harder for this than any woman.  If the women of moscow are so oppressed, why aren't they taking up the cause themselves?

The one thing I've found after reading the press from the rally is how
common the press misquotes people.
I never once said "the financial requirement was likely unattainable."  In
fact, I'm fairly certain we can raise the money.
The press also continues to neglect the silver bullet against the ordinance:
a woman cannot expose her breasts in public view.  This means her
property, including her home, if she is in public view.
Ideologies aside, that wording is absurd!
You can continue to criticize what we are doing, but unless you understand
our view, interpretations will be lacking.
