Role of Public Defenders

Dear Visionaries,
It is my belief that the role of public defender encompasses far more than 
courtesy to defendants.  A vigorous defense, both during trial and the 
appellate process, should be the minimum required standard for those who 
receive our tax dollars for their services.  I understand that Latah County 
funds the public defenders office through a bidding process - and that the 
low bid wins the contract.  Can someone on the list provide the contract 
amount (and any supplemental funding) awarded to our current public 
defenders.  I am eager to learn the price of mercy is in our county.
