I thought the law means that they get to count the
charter school service as if it had occured in any
district school. Currently I can think of two
teachers both with charter school experience prior
to teaching at "regular" district schools. Does
that experience count towards seniority??
Yes
Wouldn't that
place them "ahead" of teachers with less
experience in the district.
Yes.
In fact, you can check but I believe that you have
riffed a teacher who had two years of charter
school experience IN THIS DISTRICT. I just wondered if you had taken that
into account when making up the seniority
schedules.
Yes, it was taken into account.
Also you state that they
would have no "extra priority" so you mean that by
leaving the "regular" school they would loose
their seniority rank??
No, I mean that the time a teacher is at a charter school counts the SAME as the time s/he is in a "regular" district school--no less (as you pointed out originally) and no more (as I was pointing out).
In fact to the best of my knowledge most of the reduction in force was accomplished because of retirements, including those who retired because of an early retirment incentive the district offered this year (an ultimate money- saver for the district). I believe only one teacher was subject to the RIF, at least to the extent of fully losing a position (others may have lost part of a position). And, I do not believe that teacher had prior charter experience but in any event appropriate consideration was given to anyone with charter school experience.
