Moscow School Board election

There's a Moscow School Board election next Tuesday, but if
you're not paying attention, you might miss it. The calendar and
Idaho's confusing election laws are conspiring to make sure that hardly
anyone knows where and when it is.
First, this election is not the Idaho primary election, which takes place
the following Tuesday, May 28. Why aren't they combined?
That's a subject for another letter.
Second, this election is not the same as the Moscow School District
supplemental levy -- that was last month. It's not even in the
same place. To vote on May 21, you need to go to the Moscow School District
headquarters at F and Cleveland (north of the junior high).
Third, one candidate is on the ballot and one is not. I'm urging a vote for
the candidate who filed his nominating petition before the
deadline and is actively campaigning for the job -- Tim Kinkeade. I'm
impressed with Tim both as a business owner and as an advocate for public
schools.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to vote for him -- I live just
one-half block too far east. Only voters in the Moscow School
District's Zone 1 are eligible. In general, Zone 1 lies north of D
Street and east of Main.
But it also includes part of central Moscow, north of Sixth Street
between Main and Van Buren, and a rural area northeast of the city
limits. If you're not sure whether you live in Zone 1, call the school
district office at 882-1120 to find out. And if you do, mark your calendar
and remember to vote for Tim Kinkeade on May 21. You can register at the
polling place by presenting proof that you have lived in Zone 1 for at least
30 days.
