Re: school district questions
I apologize for the delay in answering questions that have
been posed to date. I was out of town over spring break.
I will provide answers to other questions as I receive
them.
The question about bussing doesn't have a complete
answer because there is no absolute way to compare
exactly which students would be moving under each
option, but the short answer is that most of the bus routes
are established and can be expanded if necessary. The
State pays 85% of the district bussing costs. Without
getting into a great deal of detail, the information provided
to date indicates that the financial impact of
transportation costs under any option will not make a
huge budgetary difference. Obviously, the more routes
that have to be maintained, the greater the expense. But,
additional riders do not necessarily translate into
increased expense--unless another route has to be added.
If students have to cross a "safety zone" (which Hiwy. 95 is
designated), then they are entitled to be bussed. Moving
students from or to West Park across Hiwy 95 will
probably involve some additional cost to the district, but
not an amount that would be significant to a decision on
which option works best for students overall.

Also somepthing to think about is the cost that is envolved
in bussing the students that would go to West Park to the
other schools. Would this envolve making more bus
routes,
causing a need for more drivers and busses?
Just a thought....
