The contention in the article printed in the Daily News March 6 in the
Neighbor Section titled "A familiar Echo" is that the Kendrick Gazette was
discontinued. The Kendrick Gazette was purchased in July 1998 and the name
was changed to the LatahEagle and coverage was expanded to all of Latah
County.
The argument given by Craig Clohessy when he was called about it is that a
“new” paper was started and “merged” with the Kendrick Gazette therefore the
Kendrick Gazette is no longer published. The argument is ludicrous. If
Clohessy contends that if you change the name of a newspaper and expand its
coverage the original newspaper has “died” then the “Idahonian” is dead and
the Daily News cannot claim its heritage. The name of that paper was changed
to the “Daily News” when the expansion of the paper took in Whitman County.
Clohessy has agreed to print a retraction in the weekend edition.
