Moscow's "Songcatchers" in concert at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre
Catch some of Moscow's very own "songcatchers" live in concert at the
Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre, Saturday, March 9th at 7:00 p.m.
"Steptoe", "Blackberry Jam", "Dancing Trout" and "Friends of Irish Music"
will perform a mix of Bluegrass, old timey Americana folk, Swing, and
Celtic jigs and reels. (see biographies below)
Following the concert is a 9:30 showing of the movie "Songcatcher", rated
PG-13. The story follows the journey of an English musicologist to the
Appalachian countryside, where she discovers pure forms of English ballads
in the folk songs of the people living in the mountains. Beautifully
photographed, with an unforgettable soundtrack, "Songcatcher" is a
delightful movie.
This family event is a benefit fundraiser for the Kenworthy Performing Arts
Centre. Tickets for the concert and movie are just $5.00 per person or
$15.00 per family, and will be available at the door. Donations over and
above the price of admission will help to purchase a sound system for the
Kenworthy.
"STEPTOE"
Comprised of Von Walden on guitar and banjo, Tina Hilding on standup bass,
and Paul Hill on fiddle and mandolin, Steptoe is gaining a following on
the Palouse of fans of Bluegrass and American country folk music with their
tight musicality and vocal harmonies!
"BLACKBERRY JAM"
A musical jam of eclectic styles from Bluegrass roots to standards of the
Swing era. With Sam Lyman on mandolin and lead male vocals, Carla Chandler
on fiddle and vocal harmony, Cathy Brinkerhoff, rythm guitar and lead
female vocals, Jeff Evans, lead guitar and harmonica, and Dave Bezdicek on
stand up bass, Blackberry Jam is a jazzy blend of driving downbeats and
sweet harmonies.
"DANCING TROUT"
Usually found playing for Palouse Folklore Society Contra Dances, Dancing
Trout combines Old Timey, Americana Folk and Celtic jigs and reels to come
up with some of the best dancing music on the Palouse! Sam Lyman, Carla
Chandler, and Jeff Evans are joined by Lisa Kliger on banjo, flute and
vocals and Tim Bell on Bass (Dave Bezdicek fills in once-n-awhile!).
"FRIENDS OF IRISH MUSIC"
The Uillean pipes lead the wild sound of traditional jigs, reels and horn
pipes. "Friends of Irish Music" includes Lisa O'Leary on hammer dulcimer
and Irish drums, John Watkinson on penny whistles, Glen Kastrinos on flute
and guitar, and Doug Lammer on Uillean pipes. According to Glen Kastrinos,
"The music will have you either joyously clapping your hands or running for
your life."
