Visionaries,
The Endurance, Shackleton's Legendary Antarctic Expedition, will be shown
at the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre on Friday, February 8 at 7:00pm and
9:15pm as a fundraiser for the PCEI Endowment Trust Fund
<http://www.pcei.org/support/endowment/endowment.html>. Ticket prices for
this special showing are $6 adults and $3.50 for children (in respect of
the 635 days that Shackleton and his crew spent in Antarctica on, and off,
his ship, the Endurance).
Tickets for the Friday 7:00pm and 9:15pm show of The Endurance are on sale
at Bookpeople in downtown Moscow. Also, the new vegetarian lunch
restaurant, Vegan's (located in downtown Moscow) will have a taste sample
table set up inside the lobby of the Kenworthy.
The Endurance recounts one of history's greatest tales of survival, Sir
Ernest Shackleton's 1914-1916 expedition to Antarctica. In August 1914, at
the outbreak of World War I, Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic
Expedition set sail from Plymouth, England on board the Endurance, a
three-masted wooden sailing ship designed to withstand ice. The crew of 28
men would not be heard from again for nearly two years. As one PCEI member
wrote, "This is just the most incredible story and the movie is excellent.
Have fun with this one and do not let anyone you know miss it."
The movie is based on the book by Caroline Alexander, and won the National
Board of Review for Best Documentary. To learn more about the movie (rated
G), visit- <http://www.endurancethemovie.com>.
The PCEI Endowment Trust Fund was established in the Fall of 2000 for the
purpose of ensuring the financial future of the Palouse-Clearwater
Environmental Institute <http://www.pcei.org>. Contributions to the
endowment such as cash, stocks, and bonds are invested in socially
responsible funds, and the earnings from these investments are used to
initiate new PCEI projects and protect our local environment. Building an
endowment takes time and requires endurance.
Our movie sponsors include: Diamond Western (currently living at McMurdo
Station, Antarctica), Maynard and Joan Miller (on behalf of the
Glacialogical and Arctic Sciences Institute), Rosemary Streatfeild and
Gundars Rudzitis, Kurt Martyn, and Tina Hilding and Von P. Walden. We will
have some Antarctica displays and photos set up by some of our sponsors.
The Endurance will be shown at the Kenworthy on Saturday evening and Sunday
matinee also, but not as a benefit for PCEI.
Advance tickets may be purchased at Bookpeople of Moscow. For more
information contact Tom Lamar, PCEI 882-1444 or lamar@pcei.org or Pam
