In fact, it seems the City Fire Department responded initially to aid the
Rural. According to a map of the city limits I just received from the City
Engineering Dept., the wheat field fire you mention was not in the city (as
it moved south it probably moved into the city, however). As my house was
one of those threatened, I'm certainly glad we had both departments; but
that's exactly what mutual aid departments do and they do it from stations
they build with funds from their own constituents. That's all we are asking
about here.
