RE: Fire Station Question

The construction of a new fire station on the north end of Moscow is very important from a response time perspective.  We need this station in order to retain the good fire rating we enjoy in the City of Moscow.  This rating translates directly into lower fire insurance rates.  The fact the new facility is located in an area that will benefit County residents is really a secondary factor.  As a matter of fact, County fire equipment will be stored in the station and they will pay rent for this space or contribute to the capital cost of this facility.  The details of this agreement are not finalized at this point in time.

From a broader perspective, it is important to keep in mind the cooperative relationship we have with the Rural Fire Department.  Without their help, the stubble fire we had in the east end of Moscow this last summer would have been very difficult to contain.  This fire was inside the City limits of Moscow and they responded with equipment and people.  There will come a day when we will be able to return the favor.

Subject: Fire Station Question

It appears that the burden of the new fire station will be on the shoulders of city residents and yet the positioning of it would benefit mostly rural or county residents. Why are county residents not participating as well? This does not seem fair. Explanation please.

Thanks,

Tim
