Re: [Vandal] Aerial Photograph of Old Moscow
Dear John and Visionaries,
Lest I begin to sound like I was here when the
photo was taken and can't quite remember things correctly, let me do a slight
revision of my prior posting (yes, I know... I should have read the rest of the
in basket before dashing something off!).
That imposing, rather elegant and residential
looking white building behind the Methodist Church looked to me like a home, no
longer there, on Adams between 1st and A Street. Looking at the tall pipe and
then west, you'll see 310 East A and next to it, my house, 304, on the corner of
A and Jefferson. I'm now not sure where Russell School actually
is...?!?
The Day Mansion (now the home of Willi and Peter
Siems at 430 East A) is just behind the 1912 MHS... you can see part of Dave and
Marianne Shupe's home with its decorative woodwork that fronts on B Street
behind and just a tad to the west. The thing that put me off originally
from recognizing it was its dark color!
VERY cool, Tom. Thanks, John, for taking the
trouble to look closely too! I know someone out there is saying "They have 'way
too much time on their hands..."
Have a great week, people.
All the best,
Linda

The picture is great. It was
taken from the south side of what is now fifth street at where the parking lot
entrance into the court house is. The Methodist church is clearly
visible, along with thee Old Moscow High School. Also visible behind the
left side of the old MHS is the Latah County Historical Society Museum at 110
S. Adams. The large white building beyond the Methodist church may be
the original Russell School. It is certainly located on that sight and,
if my memory is correct, that building is not on a drawing I've seen of Moscow
circa 1897. Also, beyond the old MHS near the top of the roof lines on
the right, is a roof line that looks like it could be the Siems Mansion at 430
E. A

Sam -
I
would love to share these photos with Vision2020 here in town (the more the
merrier, I say). They can visit my archive (as well as download the
photos) at:
Memories tend to lose their intrinsic value unless
you share them.

Thanx for sharing your old photos, Tom.
No, I think that is not an "aerial" photo, at least not
in the
conventional sense of being from an aircraft. Much
too low.
Maybe shot from the Presbyterian Church or the
Courthouse, if
either existed then.
On the left, not too far into the distance, is that the
"1912"
building that is now being renovated? And just
beyond that and
to the right, is that the building occupied by the
Unitarian
Church?
Would you be willing to share your posting with the
Vision2020
email group out of moscow.com? I'm sure a number
of readers of
that list would find your photo
interesting.

Greetings Vandals -
I have just added an aerial
photograph of old Moscow to the archives. I
believe this photo
was taken from the olde grain elevator on the north side
of
town. I have no idea when it was taken, though. As ever, you
can view
it (and download it) at:

The
Cougar feast at the zoo is scheduled for August 30 at Martin
Stadium.
See you there.
Until then, take care and . .
.
GO VANDALS ! ! !
