RE: Traffic revision?
I was also taken aback for a second by the new "revision" on the right hand
lane of Warbonnet. I would guess that it is a misunderstanding as the
overhead sign still shows both left and right turns allowable. If you look
closely at the pavement, you will see that they painted the same arrow that
was there earlier (right hand only) but either had faded or been mostly
removed. The paint crew probably looked at the "faded" right turn arrow and
re-painted this without seeing the overhead sign.
I assume there is someone here in the group that can bring this to the
attention of the city. It is an intersection I use often and wouldn't mind
getting the ambiguity cleared up.
Ry, I'm not sure if you meant to be slamming the WalMart crew or not, but it
did come across that way (by the way, I drive a Suburban and occasionally
shop at WalMart). As for Erik's response, Ry has a valid question as to
whether or not this has truly changed as signs and lane designations say two
different things. Your "witty" reply was off the mark.

The right hand southbound lane at the intersection of War Bonnet and
West Pullman (the Wal Mart intersection) used to be a left or right
turn. The defacto use of the lane was that it was split; people going
to Pullman would get far right and make a right, people going left
would stay in the left hand part of the lane. This gave us three
lanes, and life was usually OK.
After the latest round of restriping, it's a right turn only lane.
Why the change? This means that basically all of the people who can't
figure out how to leave the Wal Mart parking lot end up jammed trying
to merge where there is no space to merge, and the people who know
how to leave without causing a traffic jam are now punished having to
wait for the morons at the bottom of the hill to play car tetris
(should I say SUV tetris?) while dodging people trying to make a left
into Wal Mart. ARGH. If this is private property, I can see them
changing lane designations at will. If this is city property, I'd
like to know if this is just an oversight or if the use of the lane
has actually been changed.
